CA-3 Automatic Coupler Head SA-3 Hook Buffer for Russian Freight Cars

CA-3 / SA-3 coupler is the main coupler for former Soviet Union Railways. It has a higher impact speed and provides significant traction effect under extreme climate conditions. It is classified as a non-rigid automatic coupler and can tow goods with a total weight of more than 8000 tons under bad weather conditions.

The CA-3 coupler head is composed of the coupler body, coupler lock, lock pawl, lock stop, lock lift, lock lift shaft, bolt, nut and washer. It has three working states: free state, coupling interlock state and uncoupling state.

The coupler has a reasonable design and high structural strength, with main parts made of TB/T 2942-E grade steel. When two couplers are in the free state they can be connected on contact. The unique ‘push’ position makes shunting operation convenient. The free clearance between the connecting profiles of two couplers is 10 mm, which belongs to the tight coupling type in structure and reduces the longitudinal impact of the train.
